Just Mambo barrier concern PDF Print E-mail
WHAT appears to be a perfect barrier draw for today's $500,000 Magic Millions Cup (1400m) hope Just Mambo concerns John O'Shea.

The Sydney trainer says the four-year-old is a free roller and not a sit and sprint horse.

O'Shea can see the "danger" in sitting third on the fence.

That position in a race is normally the most sought after but may play against the $4 chance.

"He may be able to lead or sit outside the leader, that would be more desirable," O'Shea said.

At his last start Just Mambo worked from barrier 15 and sat outside the leader and nearly won the Group 2 Winning Edge (1400m) at Rosehill on March 8 won by stablemate Racing to Win.

"That was a great run for fourth, he was within two lengths. I wish he had won as Racing To Win was penalised after that race harshly for the Doncaster Handicap," O'Shea said.

"Just Mambo has raced in Group company in all but two starts. I think he will go really well."

The Sydneysiders may have a hold on today's race.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse has an undeniable chance with her duo Theseo and Five Ways.

Theseo finished one length away from Hoystar in the Group 3 Frederick Clissold (1200m) at Randwick on March 1 when first up after 38 weeks.

Just in advance was Saturday's Group 3 Liverpool City Cup's first and second placegetters Danleigh and Friday Creek.

Waterhouse's primary stable rider Nash Rawiller is aboard Theseo while in-form Dan Nikolic rides Five Ways.

Queenslanders Mitanni, Hard To Catch and Upilio all entertain hopes.

Yet there must be a question mark on whether Mitanni and Hard To Catch are racing at their best.

Upilio is but his Gold Coast record reads five starts for a third only, not the stuff that sends punters plunging their hard earned.
